Mumbai: Man Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Sister Over Property Dispute in Andheri

Mumbai, 26th April 2025: A 48-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his 45-year-old sister during a heated property dispute at their Andheri residence on Friday.
The accused, Ashish Karandikar, a resident of Lallubhai Park in Andheri West, lived with his 80-year-old mother, his two children, and his sister, Anvaya Kiran Paingankar. According to police sources, tensions had been simmering after their mother transferred ownership rights of the family property solely to Paingankar.
Karandikar, who had relocated to Meghalaya 15 years ago, returned to Mumbai two years ago. During his absence, Paingankar had moved in with their mother to assist in her care, along with supporting Karandikar’s children. It was during this period that the mother reportedly transferred the property in Paingankar’s name.
Senior Inspector Sunil Jadhav of Juhu police station stated that the dispute intensified following Karandikar’s return. The building involved in the dispute is currently undergoing redevelopment, which has further escalated tensions.
The confrontation turned violent when an argument broke out between the siblings. In a fit of rage, Karandikar allegedly attacked his sister, stabbing her four times in the abdomen with a kitchen knife.
Karandikar’s mother and children, who were present during the attack, immediately alerted authorities. Police arrived at the scene, arrested Karandikar, and sent Paingankar’s body to Cooper Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The accused has been booked for murder, and further investigation into the case is underway.
