Mumbai: Metro Construction Slab Falls on Vehicles in Mulund; One Killed, Probe Ordered

Mumbai, 14th February 2026: A fatal accident occurred in Mulund (West) on Saturday afternoon after a portion of an under-construction metro slab collapsed onto vehicles moving along LBS Road, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.

According to preliminary inputs from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident took place around 12:20 pm on the busy arterial stretch connecting the city’s eastern suburbs. A heavy concrete segment reportedly detached from a metro pillar under construction and crashed onto an autorickshaw and a car passing beneath.

Officials confirmed that one individual died in the mishap, while at least two others sustained injuries. Rescue teams initially feared that some persons may have been trapped under the debris, prompting a swift emergency response.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, metro authorities, civic ward staff, and the 108 ambulance service were deployed to the scene. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Search and clearance operations continued at the site for several hours.

The collapse led to significant traffic disruption on LBS Road, a crucial connector for daily commuters in Mumbai’s eastern corridor.

The incident has once again drawn attention to safety standards at large-scale infrastructure sites, including metro construction works executed by agencies such as the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation and other implementing bodies. Authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the precise cause of the structural failure and to assign responsibility.

Further updates are awaited as investigations and technical assessments progress.
