Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line to Run Through the Night on New Year’s Eve, Ensuring Safe Commutes into 2026
Mumbai, 30th December 2025: In a move aimed at ensuring safe and seamless travel during New Year celebrations, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced overnight operations on Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) on the intervening night of December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.
As per the official announcement, metro services on the Aqua Line will run continuously from 10:30 pm on New Year’s Eve until 5:55 am on New Year’s Day, allowing commuters uninterrupted access to public transport through the night. Regular scheduled services will resume from 5:55 am on January 1.
MMRC officials said the decision was taken to support large-scale public movement during festivities, reduce road congestion, discourage the use of private vehicles, and promote safer travel options for late-night commuters. The extended operations are also expected to ease pressure on road transport and enhance overall mobility during peak celebration hours.
“The special night services are intended to provide a dependable and safe travel alternative for citizens celebrating the New Year,” MMRC stated, encouraging commuters to rely on the metro for late-night journeys and ensure responsible celebrations.
The round-the-clock operations are likely to benefit revellers, late-shift employees, hospitality workers, and airport-bound travellers, further strengthening the Aqua Line’s role as a key component of Mumbai’s urban transport network during major events.
With the extended services, MMRC continues to strengthen Mumbai’s public transport network, ensuring seamless connectivity even during peak celebratory moments as the city rings in New Year 2026.
