Mumbai: Mumbai International Airport Adjourns Flight Operations For Scheduled Six-Hours Maintenance

Mumbai, 18th October 2023: Mumbai International Airport has decided to close for six hours today, October 18. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has been closed since 11 a.m. and is expected to remain closed till 5 p.m.

The airport administration informed that due to the pre-scheduled post-monsoon maintenance, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport will be closed today for six hours. Accordingly, two runways, RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32, will remain temporarily closed. It has been learned that the airport administration department issued notice regarding this approximately six months ago.

This brief shutdown is anticipated to significantly disrupt flight operations at Mumbai Airport and leave a notable impact on passengers. According to reports, Mumbai Airport handles approximately 900 flights daily. Of these, 500 flights are scheduled to be temporarily suspended today to accommodate the ongoing maintenance work. The data further indicates that the main runway typically accommodates 45 flights per hour, while the secondary runway handles 35 flights per hour.

Mumbai Airport is the busiest airport in the country, followed by Delhi Airport. At present, Mumbai airport handles 900 to 950 flights per day. The block will cancel some of these services. The traffic on domestic as well as international flights has increased at Mumbai airport, and the number of passengers has also increased in recent days.
