Mumbai–Nanded Vande Bharat Stalls in Kasara Ghat Tunnel After OHE Fault, Passengers Report Suffocation
Mumbai, 27th July 2026: Passengers travelling on Train No. 20706 Mumbai–Nanded Vande Bharat Express faced a prolonged delay on Monday after the train came to a halt between Kasara and Igatpuri due to an overhead equipment (OHE) fault, leaving commuters stranded inside a tunnel for over an hour.
According to railway officials, the train stopped between 4.35 pm and 5.07 pm after an OHE insulator failed to hold. The affected equipment was attended to on priority, following which the train resumed its journey towards Nanded.
During the stoppage, several passengers reported experiencing suffocation inside the air-conditioned coaches while the train remained stationary in the tunnel. Commuters said emergency doors were opened by the train crew to improve ventilation inside the coaches.
Passengers also expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding the reason for the delay and the expected time for restoration while the train remained stranded.
In an official statement, railway authorities said: “Train number 20706 Mumbai to Nanded Vande Bharat stopped between Kasara and Igatpuri today because of an OHE insulator not holding from 16.35 hrs to 17.07 hrs. The OHE insulator was attended to on priority and the train continued its proper journey afterwards towards the destination.”
The train resumed its onward journey after the OHE fault was rectified.
