Mumbai Police Arrest Raipur Lawyer for Threatening Shah Rukh Khan and Extortion Demand

Mumbai, 12th November 2024: On Tuesday, the Mumbai police arrested a lawyer from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly threatening to kill Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and demanding ₹50 lakh from him last week.

A senior officer from Raipur confirmed the arrest of 42-year-old Faizan Khan, who is expected to be produced before a local court in Raipur, where the Mumbai police will seek his transit remand. Faizan was summoned for questioning in connection with the threat call made to Shah Rukh Khan the previous Tuesday but failed to appear before the authorities.

Both Mumbai and Raipur police have not disclosed the motive behind the threat call. Initially, Faizan claimed his phone had been stolen, suggesting that someone else had made the threatening call to frame him.

On the day of the incident, Mumbai’s Bandra police station received a threat from an individual who identified himself as ‘Hindustani’. The caller, claiming to be outside Shah Rukh Khan’s residence, Mannat, warned that unless ₹50 lakh was paid, he would kill the actor. Investigations revealed that the call had been made from a mobile number registered in Faizan Khan’s name. When questioned, Faizan claimed his phone had been stolen on November 2, the actor’s birthday, and filed a theft complaint with local authorities.

After failing to appear for questioning, Faizan was served a notice by the Mumbai police. An officer mentioned that Faizan had been involved in a minor criminal case earlier this year and had previously lodged a complaint against Shah Rukh Khan over a line from the actor’s 1994 film Anjaam, which he found objectionable.

The police have filed an FIR under sections 308(4) and 351 (3)(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to extortion and criminal intimidation. Additionally, security outside Shah Rukh Khan’s home was increased following the threat.
