Mumbai Police Bust Fake Call Centre in Malad, 14 Arrested for Running Investment Scam

Mumbai, 12th October 2024: The Mumbai crime branch uncovered a fraudulent call centre in Malad on Thursday, leading to the arrest of 14 individuals who were allegedly impersonating employees of a UK-based investment firm and scamming people into investing money on their platform.

Authorities revealed that the group used online trading platforms to attract victims with the promise of high returns on investments. Initially, they would show fabricated profits to gain the victims’ trust, encouraging them to invest further. However, once additional investments were made, the platform was manipulated to display losses.

According to officials, this scam had been operating for several years. During the raid, police seized computers, laptops, mobile phones, and other documents linked to the illegal activity.

The arrested individuals are facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating and forgery, as well as the IT Act. Investigators suspect that more people may be involved in the scheme.
