Mumbai: Police Lay Out Prohibitory Order Before Holi

Mumbai, 6th March 2023: The Mumbai Police issued a prohibitory order and a list of penal actions to prevent adverse incidents during the Holi celebrations. According to a directive from Vishal Thakur, DCP (Operations), Holi and Rang Panchami shall be observed citywide from 5th to 11th March. Additionally, it included a list of behaviours that were punishable offences because they could cause friction and public peace violations.

COMPLETE LIST OF RESTRICTED ACTS FOR HOLI 2023 –

Throwing coloured water
Use of vulgar and careless language in public
Use of inappropriate gestures
Displaying or disseminating images, signs, banners, or anything else that might be offensive to morality, decency, or dignity
Preparation/throwing of balloons filled with liquid or coloured/plain water.

According to section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951, anyone who disobeys the order or encourages disobedience would be penalised.

In addition, traffic advice will be issued by the police following the festival. Guidelines for the city’s Holi celebrations should be available by tomorrow.
