Mumbai: Recruitment Process To Now Include Separate Option For Third Gender
Mumbai, 6th March 2023: In the recruitment process of government jobs and educational institutes, a separate option will be provided for the third gender along with men and women. State’s Advocate General Birendra Saraf informed the High Court on Monday that the government’s decision in this regard will be taken within a week.
Similarly, the police recruitment rules will also be amended regarding the physical standards of the third parties in the recruitment process for the post of constables and drivers in the police force. This process will also be completed within a week, the state government informed the bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne. A committee will be formed within the week to devise a policy to provide employment opportunities to third parties. Advocate General Saraf also told the court that the committee will submit a report with policy recommendations within two months.
Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company published an advertisement for 170 vacancies. The company has provided reservations for social classes, women and physically challenged persons in it. Also, a provision was made for the third gender to apply, but no reservation was made for them. Petitioner advocate Kranti L claimed that the company did not make reservations for the third gender despite orders from the Supreme and High Courts. He approached the High Court. It was claimed in the petition that no reservation was made for the third gender, and their fundamental right to life was violated. The court had asked the government why there was no reservation for the third gender in government recruitment.
In the recruitment process for government jobs and educational institutions, separate options will now be made available for third gender like men and women. Similarly, information was given by the state government about revising the police recruitment rules and planning a policy of giving reservations in jobs to the third gender. Meanwhile, Abhijit Joshi, on behalf of the company, had told the court that the petitioner had simultaneously applied for the job from the third gender and orphan category. It was also brought to the notice of the court that the result of the examination of 223 seats has not been announced yet due to the petitioner. Taking cognizance of this, the company was ordered to announce the results of the examinations for 223 seats.
