Mumbai: Renowned Marathi Actor Ravindra Berde Passes Away at 78 After Battling Cancer

Mumbai, 13th December 2023: Mumbai mourns the loss of veteran Marathi actor Ravindra Berde, a stalwart in the Marathi cinema industry, who breathed his last on Tuesday midnight at the age of 78. Berde, known for his versatile roles in over three hundred Marathi films, had been battling cancer for the past few years. Despite being brought home from the hospital two days ago, he succumbed to a heart attack. The actor is survived by his wife, two children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
Ravindra Berde, a prominent character actor, left an indelible mark on Marathi cinema with his remarkable performances. Although he had stepped away from acting in recent years, he continued to appreciate quality dramas and films. Notably, in 1995, he suffered a heart attack while performing in the play ‘Vyakti Aani Valli.’ Since 2011, he had been battling throat cancer and was undergoing treatment at Tata Hospital in the days leading up to his demise.
Born into a family deeply connected with the arts, Ravindra Berde was the brother of the late Marathi Superstar Laxmikant Berde, and his cousin was the renowned theatre director Purushottam Berde. His early association with acting began at All India Radio, where he started directing dramas. In 1987, he ventured into acting, marking the beginning of a prolific career in theatre.
Berde’s acting career spanned multiple mediums, including serials, advertisements, and films. Known for his comedic timing, he initially played villainous characters before transitioning to comedic roles. His notable works include ‘Houn Jau De,’ ‘Hamaal De Dhamaal,’ ‘Thartharat,’ ‘Changu Mangu,’ ‘Uchla Re Uchala,’ ‘Bakaal,’ ‘Dhadakebaaz,’ ‘Gammat Jammat,’ ‘Zapatlela,’ ‘Bhutachi Shala,’ and many others.
