Mumbai Reports Possible GBS Case as Andheri Woman Admitted to ICU

Mumbai, 8th February 2025: A 64-year-old woman from Andheri West has been hospitalized with suspected symptoms of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological condition that has been reported in multiple districts across Maharashtra, including Pune. She was admitted to the civic-run Seven Hills Hospital on February 5 after experiencing fever, diarrhoea, mobility difficulties, and eventual paralysis.

Hospital sources indicated that initial tests detected white spots in her brain, prompting immediate admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) and initiation of plasma exchange therapy. While some believe this could be the first reported GBS case in Mumbai, civic health officials clarified that the city has seen sporadic cases in the past.

Officials further confirmed that this case is unrelated to the recent GBS outbreak in Pune. The patient had no travel history to any of the affected regions, according to Dr. Daksha Shah, Executive Health Officer of the BMC.
