Mumbai Teen Escapes Silence, Accuses Own Father of Molestation!

Mumbai, 14th December 2023: A man, aged 32, has been apprehended by the Trombay Police on suspicion of engaging in inappropriate behaviour with his underage daughter. The 15-year-old victim and her brother had initially resided with their mother in West Bengal, following her separation from the accused. Due to their mother’s remarriage, the siblings were compelled to relocate to Mumbai, living with their father and stepmother, a move that occurred approximately three months ago.
The girl, who had completed her studies up to class 9 in West Bengal and intended to continue her education in the city, disclosed that her distressing experiences began about a month ago. The accused allegedly intruded on her while she was sleeping, engaging in inappropriate touching. In her statement to the police, the minor initially dismissed the incident, attributing it to a misunderstanding.
Starting from December 1, the accused reportedly initiated discussions on sexual topics in private and attempted to persuade her into a physical relationship. Between December 8 and 9, when she was home alone, he allegedly made unwarranted advances, compelling her to engage in intimate activities, as per the complainant’s account.
The girl confided in a close acquaintance from the neighbourhood, gathering the strength to independently approach the police with the encouragement of this woman. At the Trombay Police Station on December 11, the victim detailed the alleged reprehensible actions of her father, seeking justice for herself. Subsequently, a FIR was filed against the accused, leading to his arrest on the same day.
The complainant underwent a medical examination, and statements from family members, including the accused’s wife, the girl’s brother, and the supportive neighbour, were recorded by the police as part of the evidentiary record for the impending chargesheet.
The man faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault against a woman, sexual harassment, insult to modesty, and death threats, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused, identified as a Zari or embroidery artist, has been remanded to police custody for two days and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Following counselling sessions, the complainant has been relocated to Mankhurd’s Children’s Home for her safety, as confirmed by the Police.
