Mumbai: Trader Defrauded Of Rs 32 Lakh By Fake Sales Tax Officials
Mumbai, 27th February 2023: A trader in Kalbadevi was cheated of Rs 32.15 lakh by fake sales tax officials on Saturday. The LT Marg police investigated the matter, and after registering the case, the accused, Sanjay Singh Karcholi and Razia Sheikh were arrested within a few hours. The court remanded the accused to police custody till 1st March.
Complainant Jatharam Prajapati of Kalbadevi Road works to give and receive money and parcels of clothes to Babulal Prajapi, a tailor. On 25th February, at around 5 pm, while Jatharam was on foot with Vishnu Kanti Angadia for Rs 32 lakh belonging to Babulal, near Adarsh Hotel, Kalbadevi Road, an unknown person and a woman, pretending to be sales tax officers, took away Rs 32 lakh and a mobile phone worth Rs 15,000. Subsequently, Jatharam lodged a complaint at the LT Marg police station and registered a case.
LT Marg Police obtained CCTV footage from the crime scene and the surrounding area. After that, they tracked the bike used by the accused and traced the location of the accused with the help of informants. The police searched the Mangaldas Market area and arrested Sanjay Singh Karcholi. When he was interrogated thoroughly, he confessed to the crime. After his accomplice Razia Sheikh was detained, she also confessed to the crime. Sanjay Singh hails from Madhya Pradesh and is working as a security guard in Mumbai. Police informed that Razia Sheikh, who lives in Ghatkopar, is also a security guard.
