Mumbai: Traffic Inspector Injured In Hit-And-Run Incident On Wadala-Chembur Road, Accused Rickshaw Driver Arrested

Chembur, 25th July 2023: A traffic policeman, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukhdev Bhikaji Karad (55), from the Antophil Traffic Police Branch, was left severely injured after a reckless rickshaw driver collided with him on the Wadala-Chembur road. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 23, around 12:30 PM near Ahuja Bridge on the North Channel of the Wadala-Chembur link road.

On Sunday Afternoon, Karad was on duty near Wadala-Chembur Road when he saw a rickshaw driving in the opposite direction. When he attempted to stop the rikshaw, The driver, identified as Mohammad Waqas Tayyabali Shah, accelerated the speed and hit the traffic inspector. After the accident, the 22-year-old driver, who is a resident of Qureshi Nagar in Kurla East, fled immediately.

The impact of the collision left the traffic policeman with severe injuries to his head and left hand. After the accident, Karad immediately filed a complaint against the absconding driver at Wadala TT Police Station.

In response to the complaint filed by Karad, the police have taken prompt action and registered a case against the accused rickshaw driver under sections 353, 332, and 188 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The charges include speeding, obstructing government work, and causing injury.

With the help of the rickshaw’s identification number, police managed to apprehend Mohammad Waqas Tayyabali Shah on the same night of the incident.
