Mumbai Traffic Police Declare No-Parking Zone Near Metro Line 3 Station Gates to Ease Congestion

Mumbai, 16th March 2026: In an effort to improve traffic flow and ensure smoother pedestrian movement near metro stations, the Mumbai Traffic Police has imposed a 24-hour no-parking restriction within 30 metres of entry and exit gates at all stations on Mumbai Metro Line 3.

The restriction applies to all 27 stations along the 33.5-kilometre underground corridor, which connects Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai with Aarey Colony in the city’s northern suburbs. The metro corridor, also known as the Aqua Line, was opened for public use on October 9 and has since become an important transport link across the city.

Officials said vehicles parked close to station gates were frequently causing traffic bottlenecks and obstructing the movement of commuters entering and exiting the metro premises. To address the issue, authorities have issued a permanent notification declaring these areas strict no-parking zones until further notice.

The Aqua Line connects several key locations across Mumbai, including major business districts, educational institutions, religious centres and commercial hubs, making it a crucial component of the city’s public transport network.

Since its launch, the corridor has witnessed a strong commuter response. Official figures show that the metro recorded around 38.63 lakh passengers in October, with an average daily ridership of about 1.41 lakh commuters.

A survey conducted by the Mumbai Traffic Police also found that traffic congestion around the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus area dropped by nearly 30 per cent after the metro line became operational, highlighting the growing role of the new corridor in improving urban mobility across Mumbai.
