Mumbai’s AQI today is 91, classified as ‘Moderate’. However, some regions in the city are experiencing a noticeable decline in air quality, with certain areas facing “very poor” conditions, raising concerns over public health.
According to the SAMEER app from CPCB, Mumbai’s AQI was 121 on Monday, falling slightly to 115 on Tuesday, remaining within the ‘moderate’ range. However, specific areas reported higher AQI levels. For example, on October 2, BKC registered an AQI of 112, but by Tuesday, it had risen to fluctuate between 187 and 231, showing a decline in air quality. Meanwhile, Shivaji Nagar in Govandi recorded the city’s highest AQI on Tuesday, with readings between 266 and 269. Just a day before, AQI levels at Shivaji Nagar and BKC were recorded at 133 and 115, respectively.
The worsening air quality is attributed to a mix of dry weather and damp winds carrying pollutants. The AQI scale categorizes readings as follows: 0-50 is good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and anything above 400 is severe.
