Mumbai’s Batting Brilliance Seals Win After Dismissing Maharashtra for 126

Mumbai, 21st October 2024: Defending champions Mumbai revived their Ranji Trophy campaign with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Maharashtra in their second Group A league match on Monday, bouncing back from a heavy defeat to Baroda in their opening game.

Chasing a target of 74 runs, Mumbai began the final day at 13 without loss. Although Ayush Mhatre’s dismissal for 15 runs denied the team a bonus point, Prithvi Shaw, with an unbeaten 39 off 36 balls, and Hardik Tamore, who scored 21 not out off 26 deliveries, secured the win for the team in just 13.3 overs.

This victory followed an 84-run loss to Baroda in their first match. At the BKC ground, Mumbai showcased exceptional performance across all facets of the game.

The match’s outcome was largely determined on the first day when Mumbai dismissed Maharashtra for 126 in their first innings. They then capitalized on this lead with a stellar batting display, highlighted by 17-year-old Mhatre’s impressive 176 and Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive 142, helping the team amass 441 runs.

Although Maharashtra improved in their second innings, with centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and veteran Ankit Bawne, along with a near-century (98) from former India U-19 player Sachin Dhas, the early damage had already sealed the match’s fate.
