Mumbai’s Draft Voter List Sparks Intense Public Scrutiny as Objections Cross 3,500 Ahead of Civic Polls
Mumbai, 1st December 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ongoing voter roll revision has drawn an unexpectedly strong public reaction, with more than 3500 objections and suggestions submitted to the draft ward-wise voter list in the days following its release. The response reflects rising public and political interest as Mumbai heads toward its long-pending civic elections.
The draft rolls, published on 20 November, are open for corrections and feedback until 3 December. The final voter list is expected to be released on 10 December. Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani has instructed his teams to scrutinise every submission thoroughly before finalising the rolls.
Multiple discrepancies, such as duplicate entries and missing names, have already triggered accusations from political parties alleging attempts at “voter manipulation” and “vote theft.” As a result, this year’s revision exercise is being watched closely by citizens as well as potential candidates.
According to official data, BMC’s administrative wards received 3,601 objections and suggestions between 20 and 30 November. In the initial phase (20–25 November), 769 submissions were recorded, with the M-East Ward (204 entries) and T Ward (123 entries) reporting the highest numbers.
A sharp rise was observed in the following days, with daily submissions as follows:
26 November: 1,371
27 November: 668
28 November: 362
29 November: 373
30 November: 58
Since 3 December marks the last day for filing objections, the election department will soon begin processing final decisions, which will ultimately determine who makes it to Mumbai’s electoral rolls for the upcoming civic polls—considered among the most high-stakes urban elections in the country.
