Navi Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell Arrests Nigerian Woman with MD Worth Rs 86.40 Lakh

Navi Mumbai, 20th July 2024: After the arrest of two men with Mephedrone (MD) valued at Rs 2 crore, Navi Mumbai’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has apprehended a Nigerian woman with MD worth Rs 86.40 lakh. The woman identified as Blessing King, also known as Khristina Enoch Yakubu (40), was detained in Naigaon, Nallasopara.

On Monday night, ANC officers arrested Fazal Jafar Khan (21) and Salauddin Allauddin Shaikh (21), both residents of Mahim. They were caught on the Sion-Panvel highway in Vashi Gaon while transporting 1004 grams of MD, worth Rs 2 crore. The arrest followed a tip-off about their delivery.

During questioning, Khan and Shaikh revealed the source of the drugs, leading to Yakubu’s arrest on Wednesday. After obtaining a magistrate’s permission, the authorities took her into custody.

The police are currently investigating the source of the MD production. Reports indicate that MD is often produced in small, clandestine operations on the city’s outskirts or in rural areas. Last year, the ANC had shut down two such factories in Khopoli.

Khan and Shaikh, who typically worked as delivery personnel and in temporary jobs, reportedly earned most of their income from drug trafficking, a fact their families were aware of. The suspects have been charged under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) of 1985 and are held in police custody until July 19.
