Navi Mumbai: Congress Protests Delay in Uran-Kharkopar Railway Line, Urges Immediate Commencement

Uran, 7th December 2023: In a demonstration of discontent, the Indian National Congress staged a symbolic protest on Thursday morning demanding the commencement of the stalled Uran-Kharkopar railway line. Despite the railway department’s efforts and tests to initiate the route, the Congress expressed frustration over the year-long delay, asserting that citizens, including students and businessmen, are bearing the brunt of the non-opening of this vital railway line.

The protest, characterized as a “show-carrot” demonstration, aimed to draw attention to the prolonged delay in launching the Uran-Kharkopar railway line. Led by Uran Taluka Congress president Vinod Mhatre, the movement saw the active participation of Baban Kamble, former corporator Afsha Mukhari, and Rekha Gharat.

Reports indicate that despite repeated announcements of launch dates, the service has failed to commence within the stipulated time frame, leading to mounting frustration among the citizens of Uran. The prolonged delay has adversely affected the daily lives of residents, causing inconvenience to students and businessmen.

During the protest, Congress directed its ire towards both the railways and the government, criticizing their perceived lack of urgency in resolving the issue and initiating the Uran-Kharkopar railway line. The dissatisfaction among citizens has further fueled the demand for immediate action to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the delay.

The Uran-Kharkopar railway line, crucial for the connectivity and convenience of residents, has faced setbacks in its launch despite previous announcements. The Congress, through its protest, seeks to highlight the urgency of starting the service to address the needs of the local populace.
