Navi Mumbai: Infrastructure Boost: PWD Unveils 315 Crore Plan to Widen and Concrete Key Road in Uran Taluka

Navi Mumbai, 29th November 2023: The Public Works Department (PWD) of Maharashtra has announced plans to widen and concrete the 13 km road from Khopate to Chirner via Dastan, connecting the east and west sections of the Uran taluka. The road will be made four-lane with a bifurcation, aiming to alleviate problems like potholes and traffic congestion caused by heavy vehicles. The estimated expenditure for this project is 315 crores.

Before 1993-94, Khopate Creek divided the Uran taluka into two parts, necessitating a 13 km travel distance. The construction of two bay bridges, one in 1993 and another later, facilitated transportation. However, the increase in traffic, particularly heavy vehicles serving container godowns linked to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) port, has led to road damage and potholes, causing traffic jams and accidents.

The proposed project aims to address these issues by widening and concreting the road from Khopate to Chirner via Dastan. The plan includes making the road four-lane with a bifurcation, anticipating improved traffic flow, reduced accidents, and enhanced durability of the road infrastructure. The project is expected to bring relief to both residents and commuters who have been grappling with the challenges posed by the existing road conditions.
