Navi Mumbai Man Charged for Allegedly Holding Doctor Captive, Extorting Rs 30 Lakh from Father

Navi Mumbai, 16th February 2024: A man from Navi Mumbai has been charged with allegedly holding a Nagpur-based doctor captive in a hotel and extorting ₹30 lakh from the doctor’s father. According to police reports, the accused, identified as Rakesh Pusadkar, had lured Dr Himanshu Raut into an investment scheme in the jewellery and electronics sectors, promising substantial returns.

The alleged deception began in April last year when Pusadkar convinced Dr. Raut to invest ₹28 lakh in various ventures. However, as time passed, Pusadkar reportedly failed to deliver the promised returns, causing frustration and concern for the victim.

In a disturbing turn of events, Pusadkar is said to have taken advantage of the situation by coercing Dr Raut into a hotel in Nerul and holding him captive. During this period, Pusadkar allegedly threatened to circulate objectionable photographs of the victim on social media if ₹30 lakh was not paid by the doctor’s father.

The doctor’s father, under immense pressure and fearing for his son’s safety, reportedly paid the extortion amount to secure the release of Dr. Raut. The matter came to light when the doctor, once freed, reported the incident to the police.

Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the case to ensure justice for the victim and to address the criminal activities perpetrated by Rakesh Pusadkar.
