Navi Mumbai Police Bust Sex Trafficking Ring, Rescue Eight Women
Navi Mumbai, 20th July 2024: On Saturday, Navi Mumbai police dismantled a sex trafficking ring and rescued eight women following the arrest of an autorickshaw driver. The operation was part of an investigation into a network that facilitated prostitution through online solicitation and transportation of women to various lodges.
Inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade of the Navi Mumbai police’s anti-human trafficking cell disclosed that they had received intelligence about the gang’s activities. Acting on a tip-off, they deployed a decoy customer who led to the arrest of the driver, Pradeep Yadav. Yadav was known for transporting women to hotels involved in the illicit activities.
During Yadav’s interrogation, police rescued an initial woman, whose information led to the discovery of seven more women being held in a room at Shiravane, Nerul. Additionally, two men, Vishnu alias Vikaskumar Janki Yadav (28) and Indrajit Indradev Prasad (63), were apprehended at the same location.
The main suspect, Shambu Upadhyaya, remains at large. An FIR has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Turbhe police station.
