9th Mar 2024: With just months remaining until the Paris 2024 Olympics, India’s javelin champion Neeraj Chopra expressed his confidence in delivering another stellar performance on the global stage when athletes gather in the French capital later this year.
Returning from his training base in Potchefstroom, South Africa, Chopra conveyed to SAI Media that he is currently experiencing his best form in a long while. “My training sessions have been exceptionally productive,” Chopra stated, while cautioning that training and competition are distinct endeavors.
Since his historic gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra has secured a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships and triumphed in the subsequent edition. Achieving a personal best throw of 89.94m, he clinched the 2022 Diamond League title and successfully defended his crown at the Asian Games last year.
“Overall, I’ve been in excellent form and aim to maintain this momentum starting from May,” Chopra affirmed.
Acknowledging the pressure of defending his title at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Chopra emphasized the importance of maintaining focus amidst such expectations. “Managing pressure will be crucial once I’m in the Games Village and fully focused on my event,” he noted, underlining the unique sense of pride that comes with representing India.
Chopra is scheduled to commence his training at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Turkey, accompanied by his coach, Dr. Klaus Bartonietz, and physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha.
The last competitive appearance of Chopra was at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. He is set to make his return during the Doha leg of the 2024 Diamond League season in May.
