NIA Detains Sixth Suspect in ISIS Maharashtra Module for Alleged Involvement in IED Creation
Mumbai, 5th August 2023: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended Aakif Ateeque Nachan, marking the sixth arrest in the ISIS Maharashtra module case. Aakif is suspected of being involved in creating Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and providing refuge for other terror operatives. He collaborated with co-conspirators Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, and Abdul Kadir Pathan, all recently caught by ATS Pune. Imran Khan and Mohammed Yunus Saki were also wanted in a previous case involving explosives in Rajasthan. Aakif was captured after raids in Borivali and Tehsil Bhivandi in Thane, with incriminating evidence seized. He aided in housing Imran and Yunus in Pune and participated in workshops for crafting explosive devices. The NIA’s investigation revealed their intent to disrupt national unity, security, and sovereignty, with ties to ISIS. This is the sixth arrest in the ISIS Maharashtra module case, focused on destabilizing the nation’s peace. The case was registered on June 28, 2023, with five previous arrests made in Mumbai, Pune, and Thane.
