Over 62,000 Ganesh Idols Immersed Across Mumbai on Second Day of Festival

Mumbai, 9th September 2024: Over 62,000 idols were immersed in various water bodies across Mumbai on the second day of the Ganesh festival, as reported by civic officials on Monday.

The festival, which began on Saturday, saw families and public groups, known as ‘sarvajanik mandals,’ installing idols of Lord Ganesh in homes and community pandals throughout the city.

The immersion process started on Sunday afternoon, following the completion of the one-and-a-half-day rituals.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, a total of 62,569 idols were immersed by midnight in the sea, other water bodies, and artificial ponds.

The BMC also confirmed that no untoward incidents occurred during the immersion process.

On Sunday, 62,197 household idols and 348 public Ganesh idols were immersed, according to a civic official.

To minimize pollution in natural water bodies, 29,923 household idols and 234 public mandal idols were immersed in specially set-up artificial ponds.

The 10-day Ganpati festival sees devotees bidding farewell to the deity at various intervals, including after one-and-a-half days, five days, seven days, and on the final day, Anant Chaturdashi.
