Palghar: Two People, Including Official From Mahavitaran, Apprehended By Police In Grafting Case
Dahanu, 4th August 2023: An official of Mahavitaran Company and his friend were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department on Wednesday, August 2, For accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from the Chinchani area of Dahanu. The incident came to light when a person from the Vasgaon area lodged a complaint against Gopal Rameshwar Paliwal, a senior technician at Mahavitran in Chinchani, for his involvement in grafting case.
The two people arrested in the case are identified as Gopal Rameshwar Paliwal and Hemant Churi. One day, while on duty, Paliwal noticed an instance of electricity theft by a person from the Vasgaon area, clandestinely connecting multiple connections to his metre. Upon inspecting this matter, Palliwal allgedly demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 from that person to shroud his illegal activities.
However, an alleged person in this case complained about Paliwal with the Palghar Anti-Corruption Squad. Accordingly, Deputy Superintendent of Palghar Anti-Corruption Department Dayanand Gawde laid a trap and apprehended Hemant Churi on Wednesday 2nd at around 7:30 p.m., blatantly accepting a bribe of Rs 7000 from the accused.
During the investigation, Churi confessed that he had accepted the bribe on the sayings of Paliwal. Accordingly, police also arrested Paliwal and put both accused in jail. Both Paliwal and Churi have now been remanded to judicial custody.
