Pune: Anti-Corruption Bureau Nabs MSEDCL Engineer Accepting Bribe for Approval in Uruli Kanchan

Uruli Kanchan, 4th February 2024: The Deputy Executive Engineer at Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) found himself in legal trouble after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 to facilitate the approval of relocating an electric pole. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) intervened and apprehended the Deputy Executive Engineer red-handed during the illicit transaction. This incident unfolded at the MSEDCL office located in Uruli Kanchan on Monday (4th).

The individual apprehended in the act is identified as Dhammapal Hausaji Pandit, aged 50. The arrest followed a complaint filed by a 31-year-old contractor with the Anti-Corruption Bureau detailing the alleged bribery incident.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the complainant is a government contractor who was assigned the task of relocating an electricity pole on private land in Sortapwadi (Taluka Haveli). However, the approval for this work, which was under the jurisdiction of Dhammapal Pandit, Deputy Executive Engineer at MSEDCL, was pending. Allegedly, Pandit insisted on a bribe of Rs 2000 to expedite the approval process for the pending file.

Frustrated by this demand, the contractor reported the incident to the ACB. Taking swift action, the ACB set up a trap at the MSEDCL office on Monday. During the operation, Pandit was apprehended red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 2000. The process of registering a case at the Uruli Kanchan police station is currently underway, and the investigation is being led by ACB Police Inspector Rupesh Jadhav.
