Pune Connection Revealed in Baba Siddique Assassination Conspiracy
Mumbai, 15th October 2024: On Tuesday, the Mumbai Police unveiled new details regarding the murder plot of NCP leader and former Maharashtra Minister, Baba Siddique. The police revealed that the conspiracy to kill Siddique had been in motion for three months, with the accused having visited Siddique’s residence multiple times unarmed during this period.
According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, the plan to assassinate Siddique was orchestrated in Pune. So far, over 15 individuals have provided statements related to the case, as the investigation continues. The police also shared that Harish, the fourth suspect arrested in connection with the murder, acted as an intermediary between the masterminds and the hired shooters.
“The arrested suspects, Praveen and the absconding Shubham Lonkar, handed over ₹2 lakh to the shooters, Gurmel Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, through Harish,” the Mumbai Police disclosed. In addition to the cash, two mobile phones were also given to the shooters to facilitate communication. Harish, who has resided in Pune for the past nine years, was instrumental in coordinating the transactions, and investigators found that the accused primarily used a social media app to chat and make calls related to the plot.
Further revelations indicated that the shooters, Singh and Kashyap, learned how to handle firearms by watching YouTube videos. So far, four suspects have been apprehended by the Mumbai Crime Branch, while three others remain at large, with efforts to track them down ongoing.
Baba Siddique was shot twice in the chest outside his office in Nirmal Nagar. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night. His funeral, held at Bada Qabrastan on Sunday, was conducted with full state honors.
