Pune: Delegation Meets Police Commissioner Over Disruptive Joyville Construction Near Hadapsar

Hadapsar, 27th February 2024: Shapoorji Pallonji Housing Pvt Ltd has been actively engaged in the construction of a vast development named Joyville in Shewalewadi village (near Hadapsar) for the past two to three years. This ongoing construction at the Joyville site has been a continuous process, operating both day and night. The persistent noise generated by the construction activities has become a significant concern, particularly during the current exam period, posing difficulties for the students in the village to concentrate on their studies.
In response to the collective concerns raised by students, villagers, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, a demand was made for immediate police intervention to address the situation at the construction site, which operates around the clock. The Commissioner of Police has responded affirmatively to these concerns and has issued instructions to the relevant police officers to take swift and appropriate action in response to the noise-related issues caused by the ongoing construction at the Joyville site.
Today, a delegation representing the Bharatiya Janata Party, including General Secretary Rahul Shewale, former Sarpanch of Shewalewadi village Mangal Kodre, Police Patil Amrita Khedekar, along with Rajendra Bhartade, Balkrishna Shewale, Ajit Shewale, Alankar Khedekar, and Vidyarthi, met with Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to address pressing concerns. The delegation highlighted that workers at the ongoing construction site, managed by Shapoorji Pallonji Housing Pvt Ltd, have been engaging in disruptive behaviour, including consuming alcohol and engaging in loud conversations throughout the night. The continuous movement of freight trains, emitting loud horns during the night, has exacerbated the problem, leading to a significant rise in air and noise pollution in the area.
The citizens, particularly children, students, and senior citizens residing in the vicinity and the village, are enduring considerable difficulties. The delegation emphasised that the persistent disturbances are adversely affecting the education of children and posing serious health concerns due to the increased levels of air and noise pollution. Despite repeated attempts to address the issue with the company management, the problems persist, and instead, the company has allegedly resorted to harassing local citizens. Moreover, the delegation raised concerns about frequent altercations and instances of labourers openly consuming alcohol and drugs, leading to an unfortunate incident last month where a youth from the village lost his life in a fight. The matter has been deemed extremely serious and warrants immediate attention and action.
Rahul Shewale conveyed that a formal statement has been submitted to the Commissioner of Police, urging him to give significant consideration to the matter and initiate legal proceedings against Joyville Construction.
