Pune: Employee Loses Life in Car Mishap at Hadapsar’s Annasaheb Magar Mahavidyalaya

Hadapsar, 2nd March 2024: At PDEA’s Annasaheb Magar Mahavidyalaya in Hadapsar, a female employee lost her life during a mishap caused by a colleague while parking the principal’s car. Simultaneously, another female professor sustained injuries. This event occurred at approximately 10:30 this morning.

The deceased woman, identified as Shalan Dattatray Shelar (50 years old, resident of Hadapsar), passed away. The injured individual, Prof. Irfana Shabbir Mulla (32 years old, resident of Hadapsar), is currently receiving medical attention in a private hospital.

Around 10:15 am today, the college principal, Dr Nitin Ghorpade, arrived at his office from the main entrance by car. Upon disembarking, he entrusted the vehicle to college servant Rahul Jadhav for parking. Subsequently, Peon Seema Deshmukh obtained the key from Rahul and attempted to drive the car within the college premises.

During that moment, the car veered out of control, colliding with Prof. Mulla, who was walking ahead, at a considerable speed. The impact propelled the vehicle into the wall near the staircase of the college washroom. Shalan Shelar, an employee, was washing her hands at the basin. The force from the collision resulted in both of her legs being crushed as the car struck her from behind.

Immediate action was taken, and both victims were swiftly admitted to a private hospital. Shalan Shelar succumbed to her injuries before receiving treatment. The Hadapsar Police are actively engaged in the process of registering a case in connection with the incident.

Deshmukh and Shelar, the accident victim, shared a close friendship. Shelar was a dynamic participant in various college programs, including cultural events, where her enthusiasm was palpable. Her untimely demise has deeply affected the faculty and staff, as she was well-known and respected among them. Shalan Shelar leaves behind her husband and two children.
