Pune: Forest Department Successfully Captures Leopard Involved in Recent Attack in Junnar

Junnar, 15th March 2024: Vaibhav Kakade, the Range Forest Officer in Otur, reported a successful capture of a leopard by the forest department. The leopard, which had caused concern due to its involvement in the recent attack on Ayush Sachin Shinde, a three-and-a-half-year-old boy, was apprehended around 4 a.m. on Friday, the 15th.
In response to the seriousness of the incident, the forest department took proactive measures by installing 10 cages and trap cameras in the Umbraj area. Additionally, a team of 30 forest department members and rescue personnel were deployed to the location.
Forest Conservator Amol Satpute personally visited Umbraj to assess the situation and address the concerns of the villagers. Subsequently, instructions were given to the forest department to capture the leopard responsible for the attack. Following diligent efforts, a leopard was successfully trapped in one of the installed cages at 4 am on Friday. The captured leopard has been safely relocated to the Manikdoh Leopard Sanctuary.
In response to the villagers’ concerns, there has been a demand for the capture of all leopards in the Umbraj area, which the forest department is likely to address.
