Pune: Fraud Alert in Kothrud: Four Doctors Among Eight Victims, Lose Rs 1.47 Crore in Investment Scam

Kothrud, 29th February 2024: An alarming incident has come to light where eight individuals, including four doctors, fell victim to a fraudulent scheme promising substantial returns on investment, resulting in a collective loss of Rs 1 crore 47 lakh. A case has been officially registered against three individuals in connection with this scam.

The complaint was lodged by a 62-year-old female doctor at the Kothrud police station. The suspects identified in the case are Sameer Mohan Kulkarni (50 years old, residing in Bavdhan), Madhurani Kulkarni (49 years old), and Anil Yashwant Chaudhary (66 years old, residing in Kothrud). The fraudulent activities took place between February 2022 and September 2023.

The complainant, a female doctor who runs a clinic in Narayan Peth, had previously received guidance in share trading from Sameer Kulkarni, a friend of her husband. Subsequently, Kulkarni, along with his wife Madhurani and Anil Chaudhary, left his job to establish the Shell and Pearl Investments sharebroking company in Kothrud. The victims were ensnared in the fraudulent scheme during this period.

Kulkarni presented an enticing offer to the complainant and her husband, assuring them of a 15% annual return on their investment in a share market scheme with his company. Trusting this promise, the female doctor invested a total of 39 lakh rupees with Kulkarni over some time. When they sought a refund after a few days, Kulkarni and his associates declined to make the payment. Recognizing the financial deception, the woman doctor promptly filed a complaint at the Kothrud police station.

Tt has been uncovered that the accused individuals engaged in similar fraudulent activities with seven additional investors, resulting in a collective loss of Rs 1 crore 8 lakh. According to the complaint, a doctor from Rambagh Colony in Kothrud was duped of Rs. 42 lakh, another from Mundhwa of Rs. 25 lakh, and a doctor from Khandala (District Satara) of Rs. 5 lakh, contributing to the overall sum of Rs. 1 crore 47 lakh along with other investors. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Chaitanya Katkar.
