Pune: Hinjawadi Car Driver Assaulted, Extorted One Lakh Rupees on Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway

Hinjawadi, 4th March 2024: Following a dispute with a car driver regarding the allocation of space on the road, a group of four individuals collectively assaulted him. Subsequently, they coerced him into surrendering one lakh rupees, equivalent to the value of a gold chain and cash. The assailants further vandalized the victim’s vehicle in the incident that occurred at Tathawade on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway around 11:00 pm on Friday (1st). Hinjawadi Police apprehended the four suspects involved.
The individuals taken into custody are Akshay Sudam Sutar (24 years old), Vijay Ashok Jadhav (24 years old), Swapnil Laxman Khandve (23 years old, residing in Mhalunge, Mulshi), and Deepak Sunil Kad (23 years old, residing in Haveli). Kunal Sunil Bhujbal (22 years old, residing in Punawale) filed a formal complaint with the Hinjawadi Police Station.
According to the police report, the complainant was returning home in his car after closing his shop when the altercation transpired at Tathawade on the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway. The complainant was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault, including blows from an iron rod and a steel drinking bottle, resulting in severe injuries to the head and face. The accused forcibly took a gold chain valued at 80 thousand rupees and 20 thousand rupees in cash from the victim.
Additionally, the assailants threw stones at the complainant’s car, causing damage. The prosecution highlights that the victim was threatened with consequences if he did not comply with leaving the area quietly. The Hinjawadi Police are currently investigating the matter.
