Pune: Illegal Opium Cultivation Unearthed Again: Two Apprehended in Mavadi Village, Purandar

Purandar, 4th March 2024: In a recent development, another instance of opium cultivation has come to light in Mavadi village, following the discovery of opium cultivation in Kodit village of Purandar taluka five days ago. Two individuals, Kiran Kundlik Jagtap (40 years old) and Rohidas Changdev Jagtap (55 years old), both residents of Kodit Budruk, Purandar, Dist. Pune, have been apprehended by the police for their involvement in the illegal cultivation of opium.
The police, working in conjunction with the local Crime Investigation Department (CID), Jejuri, and Bhor police, executed the operation and successfully seized 38 kg of opium pods valued at Rs.5 lakh from the suspects.
The initial discovery of opium cultivation occurred in Kodit village, resulting in the arrest of two senior citizens just five days prior. Subsequently, the police received intelligence regarding opium cultivation in the fields of Mavadi village. Acting on this information, the police conducted a thorough inspection of the entire farm, revealing opium plants interspersed among onion and garlic crops.
Jagtap was arrested in connection with this case, and a formal case has been registered at Jejuri police station. This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh and Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Jadhav.
