Pune Implements Ban on Heavy Vehicles to Tackle Traffic Congestion

Pune, 4th March 2024: To address the issue of traffic congestion in Pune city, a ban on heavy vehicles entering the city will be enforced starting Tuesday (March 5). Shashikant Borate, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, has urged heavy vehicles travelling to Mumbai, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Satara from outside Pune to use alternative routes.
With ongoing development projects, including the metro line, causing significant traffic slowdowns, this decision aims to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow within the city. The ban will apply to heavy vehicles arriving from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, Satara, and Solapur.
The prohibition extends to major roads such as Pune-Nagar, Pune-Solapur, and from Pimpri-Chinchwad city to Pune routes. Entry for heavy vehicles from Wagholi on Nagar Road to Pune will be closed for 24 hours. Alternately, heavy vehicles are advised to take routes via Shikrapur through Chakan to reach Mumbai via Pimpri-Chinchwad and Talegaon Dabhade.
For those heading into Pune city, recommended routes include proceeding from Theur Phata via Lonikand and Shikrapur to reach their destination. This measure aims to optimize traffic management and improve the commuting experience for motorists.
