Pune: Massive Midnight Fire at Gangadham Phase 2; Heroic Rescue of Five Lives

Market Yard, 2nd March 2024: In the early hours of today, a harrowing fire erupted on the seventh floor of Wing G-05 in Gangadham Phase 02, sending shockwaves through the residents and authorities alike. The swift response of the fire brigade averted a potential tragedy, with five lives hanging in the balance.
At approximately 1:48 am, the fire brigade received a distress call, prompting the immediate dispatch of three fire tenders and a water tanker from strategic locations including Gangadham, Kondhwa Khurd, and the headquarters. A total of six firefighting vehicles were deployed to combat the raging blaze.
Upon arrival at the spot, firefighters were met with a daunting scenario – a flat on the seventh floor engulfed in flames, billowing thick smoke into the night. Undeterred, the courageous personnel swiftly ascended, armed with hoses to combat the inferno and conduct a thorough search for any trapped occupants.
To their relief, a family of five was discovered stranded on the balcony amidst the chaos. The rescued individuals included an elderly woman, a couple, and their two small children. The firefighters, under the leadership of fire brigade officer Sanjay Ramteke and officer-in-charge Kailas Shinde, executed a daring rescue mission, ensuring the safe evacuation of the imperiled family.
The firefighting operation lasted approximately thirty minutes, with the flames finally succumbing to the relentless efforts of the brigade. Preliminary investigations point towards a burning lamp in an adjacent room as the possible cause of the fire. All household belongings within the flat were consumed by the relentless blaze, resulting in significant losses.
It is worth noting that the timely arrival of the fire brigade played a crucial role in containing the fire and preventing its spread to neighboring areas. However, a concerning discovery was made as it was revealed that the permanent fire extinguisher within the building was non-operational during the incident, raising questions about safety measures.
In this commendable rescue mission, around twenty firemen, guided by the expertise of fire brigade officers, exhibited unwavering courage and dedication.
