Rain Lashes Mumbai, But Dry Weather Forecast for Next Few Days: IMD

Mumbai, 26th April 2025: Mumbai experienced sudden rain showers accompanied by gusty winds late Friday night, bringing much-needed relief from the heat. Areas including South Mumbai, central suburbs, Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel reported rainfall, with some regions witnessing intense cloudbursts. However, despite the unexpected showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dry weather for the city over the next two to three days.

The city remained cloudy throughout Friday, with subdued sunlight offering a welcome break from the sweltering conditions. Light showers were recorded around midnight in Kanjurmarg, Mulund, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel, while thundershowers added a slight chill to the atmosphere.

According to meteorologists, such rains are typical during the pre-monsoon season, which stretches from April to May. During this period, intense daytime heating causes hot air to rise, cool, and condense into raindrops. However, experts caution that cloudy skies do not always guarantee rainfall, as sufficient atmospheric moisture is essential.

While Mumbai braces for dry conditions ahead, other parts of Maharashtra continue to battle extreme heat. In regions like Vidarbha, temperatures have consistently crossed 45°C, prompting a heatwave warning from the IMD. On Saturday, rain and thundershowers are expected in Chandrapur, Nagpur, Wardha, and Gadchiroli, with thunderstorm alerts issued for Beed, Parbhani, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur districts.

In the Konkan region, rain with gusty winds has been forecast for Sindhudurg district. On Friday, heavy rain and thunderstorms were reported in parts of Kolhapur and Sangli districts, with areas like Hatkanangle, Kasegaon, and Jat recording about 10 mm of rainfall each.

The IMD continues to monitor weather developments closely as Maharashtra transitions into the pre-monsoon phase.
