Rapid Action in Pune: Katraj Firefighters Battle Nighttime Forest Fire

Katraj, 11th March 2024: On Sunday night, a forest fire erupted in the mountains of Katraj Ghat in Pune. The incident prompted the fire brigade to take action, eventually bringing the blaze under control late at night. The fire, visible to both motorists and residents, raised concerns, leading to a prompt response from the Katraj fire brigade.
Upon being informed, two fire engines rushed to the scene, and firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames using water. The team ensured that the fire did not spread to other areas, taking precautions to contain it within the affected region. Once the fire was successfully brought under control, the fire officers concluded their operation.
This occurrence is not isolated, as during the summer season, incidents of fires in the city’s hills and open spaces become more frequent. Just a week ago, a fire occurred in the open space of Deccan College premises in Yerwada. Before that, a wildfire had broken out in the Taljai and Vetal Hill area. The fire brigade attributes these incidents to the rising temperatures, emphasizing the heightened risk of wildfires during the summer months.
