Rising Accidents Turn Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Into Perilous Route

Mumbai, 6th August 2023: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway has witnessed a disturbing surge in the number of accidents, casting a shadow of danger over travelers.

Over the span of seven months, from January 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023, a staggering 200 accidents have been recorded within the confines of Palghar district. Tragically, these incidents have claimed the lives of 95 individuals, leaving an additional 188 people injured.

The stretch from Achad to the Mumbai border has emerged as a particularly accident-prone zone. A myriad of factors contribute to this alarming trend, including reckless overtaking on highways, navigating hazardous potholes, and excessive speeding.

The menace of potholes plagues this highway, leading to tire blowouts and contributing significantly to the occurrence of accidents. Urgent calls are being made to the administration to swiftly address this hazardous issue.

Recently, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the grim reality of accidents in the nation during a public event. Speaking at a road safety awareness campaign in Delhi, Gadkari expressed deep remorse over the high incidence of road accidents in the country.

Gadkari soberly revealed that a staggering half a million accidents transpire annually in India, resulting in the loss of 150,000 lives.

Lamenting the distressing statistics, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “In a disheartening revelation, nearly 60 percent of the fatalities occur among individuals aged 18 to 34, leading to a detrimental impact of 3.14 percent on our GDP. This is an issue of significant magnitude that demands our immediate attention.”
