RTO Cracks Down On Illegal School Buses In Navi Mumbai; 42 Thousand Rupees Of Fine Collected So Far

Navi Mumbai, 28th June 2023: As schools in Navi Mumbai reopened on June 15, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been vigilant in monitoring illegal vehicles transporting school children. So far, the RTO has already taken action against 11 non-compliant vehicles, signalling a decrease compared to the previous year’s figures.

Last year, action was taken against 25 vehicles. The RTO has informed that this year, the number of illegal vehicles transporting school students has decreased compared to last year. The school administration has become more aware, and vehicles are being allowed only after verification at the school level.

As the schools were completely closed during the Corona period, school buses and vehicles were also closed. Vehicles transporting school students were started last year, but authorities encountered several violations, such as vehicles exceeding their capacity, lacking registration and licences, and disregarding established regulations. Consequently, the RTO took action against 25 vehicles who were driving illegally.

This year, the schools started after June 15, and so far, action has been taken against 11 vehicles that are driving illegally. The RTO has appealed to all school bus owners transporting school students that they must comply with the provisions of school bus rules, not to transport school students without a licence, and not to transport more students than capacity. They should have a valid vehicle licence, registration certificate, insurance certificate, competency certificate, and driver’s vehicle licence batch. So far, action has been taken against 11 illegal school vehicles transporting students, and a penalty of Rs. 42 thousand has been collected.
