Security Guard Sentenced to Five Years for Sexual Assault on 10-Year-Old Girl in Mumbai

Mumbai, 5th May 2025: A Mumbai Sessions Court has sentenced a security guard to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in the lift of a Kandivali residential building in 2020. The Dindoshi Sessions Court delivered its verdict after the victim, who was in the fifth standard at the time, identified the accused, and four witnesses testified during the trial.

The incident occurred when the girl was returning home in the lift after delivering a mask to her uncle. Following the assault, the girl confided in her aunt, leading to the arrest of the security guard by residents and the filing of a police complaint at Kandivali police station. The accused had been working as a security guard in the society for three years and has remained in custody since his arrest.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Assistant Public Prosecutor Geeta Malankar, sought the maximum punishment for the accused, while the defence pleaded for leniency, citing the accused’s family responsibilities. However, Additional Sessions Judge Ashwini D. Lokhande found the guard guilty under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, noting the severe psychological impact on the victim.

The court imposed a five-year rigorous imprisonment sentence and a fine of Rs 2,000, with an additional 15 days’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
