Shocking Obscene Acts in Mumbai Locals Raise Safety Concerns for Women Commuters

Mumbai, 17th June 2025: Two disturbing incidents involving men misbehaving in women’s coaches of Mumbai local trains have raised serious questions about the safety of female commuters and the effectiveness of railway security.
In a video that recently went viral on social media, a young man was seen unzipping his pants and behaving obscenely in a crowded compartment of a Mumbai local train. Despite protests from nearby women passengers, the man continued his lewd act. Some brave passengers captured the incident on video and shared it online, sparking widespread outrage.
This is not an isolated case. In another incident on the same Harbour Line, an intoxicated man forcefully entered a women’s coach at Chunabhatti station around 8:00 AM and attempted to remove his pants. He was forcibly removed by passengers at GTB Nagar station. Commuters reported that calls to the railway helpline went unanswered and no RPF or police personnel were present on the platform at the time.
These repeated instances have sparked anger among Mumbaikars, especially women who rely on local trains for daily travel. While women-only coaches are designated to ensure safety, the lack of immediate action and absence of security on platforms and in trains point to glaring gaps in enforcement.
Railway authorities have yet to issue a formal statement. Activists and citizens are demanding stricter monitoring, better response mechanisms, and increased deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in vulnerable zones and peak hours.
As Mumbai’s lifeline, the local train network must offer not just mobility, but a guarantee of basic safety and dignity for all passengers especially women.
