State-of-the-Art Road Jet Cleaning Plant Demonstrated in Fashion Street Area to Boost Mumbai’s Cleanliness Drive

Mumbai, 3rd January 2024: As part of the ongoing cleanliness drive in the Mumbai metropolis, a demonstration of a state-of-the-art road jet cleaning plant was conducted in the Fashion Street area. The initiative, aimed at improving air pollution control and public cleanliness, is part of a comprehensive cleanliness campaign undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the guidance of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The event was attended by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Sudhakar Shinde.

The road jet cleaning plant showcased its impressive capability to simultaneously absorb sludge and water, ensuring efficient road cleaning. The plant, known as Sadar Road Jet Cleaning Plant, incorporates high-pressure water jetting and a rotating brush for effective cleaning. It was demonstrated in Fashion Street, Mahatma Gandhi Road, highlighting its versatility in cleaning road dividers, mechanical broom-assisted road cleaning, and simultaneous suction of road sludge and water through a high-capacity vacuum system at the rear of the plant.

Dr. Sudhakar Shinde, along with Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Sanjog Kabare and Chief Engineer (Solid Waste Management) Prashant Tayshete, witnessed the plant in action. The demonstration emphasized the plant’s ease of operation, as the operator can efficiently control the cleaning system by moving the vehicle forward and backwards.

The incorporation of such advanced technology aligns with BMC’s commitment to enhancing the cleanliness of major and internal roads in Mumbai city and suburbs. The ongoing cleanliness drive aims not only to beautify the city but also to contribute to air pollution control.
