Thane: Leopard Intrusion Video Sparks Concerns; Forest Department Labels It Fake
Thane, 10th August 2023: A gripping video depicting a leopard infiltrating a residence in the Kajupada vicinity along the Thane-Ghodbunder road has set social media ablaze. The footage captures the astonishing moment on Tuesday, August 8, when a leopard boldly ventured into an area, absconding with an unknown object. However, the authenticity of the viral video has not corroborated by the Sanjay Gandhi National Park Forest Department.
The region, bordering the national park, has frequently witnessed the presence of leopards. Previously, there have been numerous instances where the forest department intervened, relocating leopards from inhabited areas and subsequently releasing them back into the sanctuary of the national park. Despite these efforts, the recurrent incursions of leopards into human settlements have stirred apprehensions, mounting regarding the potential repercussions.
Even the tribal community residing in Kazupada on Ghodbunder Road has been disconcerted by the recent viral footage, accentuating the movements of leopards within their habitat. Local residents recounted that the incident transpired during the late hours of Monday. Intriguingly, upon closer examination by forest department officials, the viral video was debunked as fraudulent, with indications that it was orchestrated by individuals deliberately propagating baseless rumours concerning leopard activities in the area.
