Thane: Major Traffic Chaos on Ghodbunder Road After Truck Overturns, Blocking Lanes for 11 Hours

Thane, 5th September 2024: A truck accident early Wednesday morning on Ghodbunder Road led to a significant traffic jam that lasted almost 11 hours. This was the second such incident in as many days, stranding thousands of commuters, including students, travelling between Thane and Mumbai. Authorities confirmed that the road was not cleared until 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The accident occurred less than 24 hours after two other incidents involving heavy vehicles on the same stretch, which caused a similar 11-hour traffic disruption the day before.

According to Yasin Tadvi, head of the Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell, the accident took place around 3 a.m. when a truck carrying 35 tonnes of paraformaldehyde, en route to Haryana, lost control of the Ahmedabad-bound lane. The truck hit the divider and overturned on the slip road near the Patlipada flyover. The driver, 50-year-old Mohd Ruzdar, was injured and taken to the hospital.

Frustrated motorists stuck in the Borivli-bound lanes in Thane began switching lanes, worsening the situation and causing a complete traffic standstill near the Bramhand area during the morning rush hour.
