27th Feb 2024: In a display of sheer dominance, Delhi Capitals cruised to victory over UP Warriors in the fourth match of the Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024), clinching a resounding nine-wicket win. The match showcased a formidable performance by the Delhi bowlers followed by an explosive partnership between Shefali Verma and Meg Lanning.
Arundhati Reddy emerged as a standout performer with her exceptional bowling for Delhi, leaving the opposition struggling to find their footing. However, her exuberant celebration after dismissing Poonam Khemnar drew criticism from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), resulting in a fine. Arundhati’s animated gestures towards Poonam as she departed the field led to her reprimand and a deduction of 10 percent of her match fee. Accepting her mistake, Arundhati acknowledged the fine imposed by the BCCI.
In a bowling masterclass by Delhi Capitals, Marijane Kapp and Radha Yadav wreaked havoc, leaving the UP Warriors’ batting lineup in shambles. Radha Yadav’s exceptional performance saw her claim four crucial wickets, while Kapp scalped three wickets, conceding a mere five runs in her four-over spell.
Chasing a target of 120 runs set by UP Warriors, Delhi Capitals achieved victory in just 14.3 overs, courtesy of a blistering opening partnership between captain Meg Lanning and Shefali Verma. Lanning and Verma displayed stellar batting prowess, with Lanning scoring 51 runs off 43 balls and Shefali remaining unbeaten with a stellar knock of 64 runs off 43 balls.
