Navi Mumbai: Authorities Struggle to Unravel Mystery Behind Alleged Train Attack in Uttar Pradesh Man’s Account

Navi Mumbai, 2nd May 2024: Following a disturbing incident involving a man from Uttar Pradesh who claimed he was stabbed and forcibly ejected from a train by four unidentified individuals, officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are grappling with a lack of substantial leads despite their collaborative investigative endeavours.
The victim, Rajendra Kumar, alleged on Tuesday that he was pushed off a Panvel-CSMT local train between Belapur and Seawoods stations, resulting in the amputation of his arm. However, the investigation has encountered hurdles, primarily due to the absence of corroborative evidence from CCTV footage.
A senior railway official revealed that the joint investigative team meticulously scrutinized footage from over 400 suburban trains in the vicinity, yet no suspects have been identified. Furthermore, inconsistencies in Kumar’s account of the incident have cast doubts on the credibility of his claims, the official disclosed.
Of particular concern is the apparent lack of intervention from fellow passengers or reports to railway authorities, as no witnesses have stepped forward to substantiate Kumar’s narrative, the official noted. Additionally, discrepancies in the timeline of events, with a significant six-hour gap between the purported occurrence and notification to railway authorities, have raised questions regarding the accuracy and circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kumar initially stated to the GRP that the incident occurred around 6:30 pm, yet he was reportedly rescued by local authorities around 1 am after the control room was informed at approximately 12:45 am—well over six hours later. Notably, during this timeframe, more than 50 trains traversed through the area.
Senior Police Inspector Sambhaji Katare from the Vashi GRP acknowledged the complexities surrounding the case, citing confusion regarding Kumar’s boarding point and destination. Despite these challenges, a complaint was filed in accordance with Kumar’s statement. Katare emphasized that had the incident truly transpired around 6 pm, it is likely that someone would have promptly alerted the control room or station master.
