Mumbai Airport Implements Major Enhancements to Passenger Processing Efficiency

Mumbai, 11th June 2024: In Mumbai, the airport announced notable enhancements to its operational capacity and passenger processing efficiency on Tuesday. With the expansion of DigiYatra and non-DigiYatra facilities across its two terminals, the airport has bolstered its ability to handle approximately 8,000 passengers per hour while reducing kerbside wait times to under one minute.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) disclosed plans to implement Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-enabled (AI/ML) cameras to augment security measures at the kerbside. Notably, the number of entry lanes, or e-gates, has surged from 24 to 68, marking the highest count of e-gates at the kerbside/landside in the nation. Among these, 34 e-gates are dedicated exclusively for DigiYatra passengers, requiring no structural modifications through the adoption of a digital gateway solution.

Furthermore, Terminal 1, serving domestic passengers, now boasts six dedicated DigiYatra e-gates and six non-DigiYatra e-gates, elevating overall capacity and passenger convenience. An additional 118 e-gates are set to be deployed at the Pre-embarkation Security Check (PESC) area in Terminal 2, further streamlining passenger movement. Through biometric validation, DigiYatra passengers can seamlessly navigate the e-gates without presenting their ticket, boarding pass, or identity verification.

MIAL expressed its commitment to facilitating swift, secure, and seamless travel experiences for all passengers, emphasizing the significant expansion of the DigiYatra facility and the integration of advanced biometric systems on its digital gateway platform at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
