Mumbai: Severed Human Finger Found in Cone Likely Belonged to Factory Staff

Mumbai, 19th June 2024: In a recent development concerning the Mumbai ice cream case, Indian media reported that a worker at the Yummo ice cream factory in Pune suffered a finger injury in an accident. This information emerged on Wednesday. The investigation into the incident revealed that the ice cream containing the severed finger was packed on the same day as the accident.
Authorities have taken samples for DNA testing to determine if the severed finger found by a 26-year-old doctor from Mumbai in his butterscotch-flavoured ice cream cone belonged to the factory worker injured that day.
Last week, Brendon Ferrao made a disturbing discovery when he found a severed human finger in his ice cream cone, ordered along with two others from the Yummo brand. He felt something unusual in his mouth while enjoying the ice cream, only to realize it was a piece of a human finger.
In response to the incident, Ferrao’s sister reported the matter to the police, leading to a complaint against the ice cream company.
Ravi Adane, Senior Police Inspector at Malad Police Station, stated, “We received a complaint about finding flesh in ice cream purchased online. We have taken the flesh piece for investigation. A case has been registered against the ice cream company under sections 272, 273, and 336 of the Indian Penal Code. We are currently investigating the matter.”
Reports indicate that the severed human finger discovered in the ice cream cone measured approximately 2 cm in length. A photograph of the ice cream cone with the protruding finger circulated widely online, raising significant concerns among local residents about food safety standards.
